Conversations With Kids: Empathy

Conversations with Kids - Week 2

For parents and guardians where we give you prompts so that you can have more meaningful conversations with your children to help them build key characteristics such as mental toughness, resilience, confidence, creativity, focus and so on.

A Question for your Kids

If your best friend had played a big match or competition and they made a big mistake, which cost them or their team the match or competition what would you say to them?

Conversations with kids best friend

Improves:

  • Empathy
  • Self Talk

Directions for Parents:

Talk about how their friend may have viewed the big match or competition beforehand.  How much time and practice they may have put into it beforehand.  How disappointed they may be feeling and how hard they might be on themselves.

Ideas for Kids:

  1. How is your friend feeling after making the mistake?
  2. How can you help your friend feel better?
  3. Have you ever made a mistake, how did you feel and what did you say to yourself?
